George III Sheraton Giltwood Drawing Room Chair

Attractive Sheraton designed drawing room chair in original distressed gilt finish.

The inspiration for this chair can clearly be seen in Thomas Sheraton’s THE CABINET-MAKER AND UPHOLSTERER’S DRAWING-BOOK.

Details of the front leg can be seen in plate 34, the top rail can be seen in plate 6 and the front leg and arm details can clearly be seen in plate 10.

The underside of the chair carries an old label for SIMKIN’S DEPOSITORY, COLCHESTER and name handwritten in ink, possibly: “Ms Maffett”.  There is also a fragmentary label to the frame printed Dublin and 6060.
